Calm, Resilient Buckfast Bees
Our colonies are based on the Buckfast strain, originally bred for their calm nature, productivity, and ability to thrive in varied weather. They’re steady to handle, less defensive, and well-suited to the changing conditions across the UK.
We prioritise health and temperament over yield. Calm bees allow Henry to work closely and carefully, keeping the colonies relaxed and thriving with minimal stress. The result is strong hives and beautifully distinctive honey shaped by the Shropshire landscape around them.
The Hives
ANEL Langstroth Hives
All of our honey-producing and breeder colonies live in ANEL Langstroth hives, chosen for their durability, insulation, and bee-friendly design.
The ANEL system combines the trusted Langstroth frame setup with modern materials that help maintain stable hive temperatures - keeping colonies warm in winter and cool through the summer.
Each hive is managed by hand, with a focus on giving the bees space to grow naturally and allowing inspections to be as gentle and unobtrusive as possible.

Nucleus Colonies
Langstroth Nucleus Colonies
Our overwintered Langstroth nucleus colonies(nucs) are raised from the same strong Buckfast lines and housed in Quarti Polynucs for stability and protection during development.
Each nuc contains five frames of brood in all stages (BIAS) and an F1 Buckfast queen - ready for their new home each spring.
We offer nationwide delivery or local collection across Shropshire, with colonies securely posted in Correx nucleus boxes to ensure safe, stress-free transport.
